Regular wellness exams allow us to catch underlying health problems early, provide consistent preventative care, and support your pet’s overall health and well-being.
Our veterinarians are skilled in diagnosing common problems that affect our pets like vomiting, itching, lumps, limping, and more.
Vaccines are essential for preventive care and can increase the chances of a longer, happier life for pets. Ensuring that pets are consistently up to date with their vaccinations can help prevent contracting disease or help lessen the severity of symptoms if a disease is contracted.
Another key component of helping to maintain your pet’s health and happiness is having them on reliable, consistent heartworm preventative.
Heartworm disease is serious and potentially fatal to our dogs and cats. Heartworms are spread by mosquito bites and can grow up to a foot long, living in the heart and lungs of our beloved pets.
Fleas can cause itchy skin, skin infections, and spread tapeworms. Ticks can carry disease such as Lyme Disease, Ehrlichiosis, and more.
From routine cleanings to tooth extractions, the Thrive Pet Healthcare network of Primary Care veterinarians and Dental Specialists is here to keep your pet's smile fresh! Our general practices can take care of everyday dental maintenance with outstanding regular check-ins, cleanings, and basic surgeries.
Meanwhile, our specialty veterinarians are prepared to handle more complex or chronic dental cases like a root abscess, jaw fracture, abnormal tooth formation, or advanced periodontal disease. These doctors are highly trained within the field of veterinary dentistry and have access to specialized equipment, typically unavailable at primary care clinics.
Unless you intend to breed, we recommend having pets spayed or neutered. Pets that have been spayed or neutered tend to live longer and have healthier lives.
It's hard to provide care without knowing the root of what is ailing your pet, which is why diagnostic testing is so important. Diagnostic testing can include laboratory testing (blood, urine, and fecal) and diagnostic imaging like X–rays, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
As pet parents, we dread the thought of our fur-children ever getting sick enough to require emergency care. Unfortunately, accidents and illnesses do occur, so our exceptional emergency care teams are here to help in your time of need.
We will be by your side during this time of need to offer both medical assistance and emotional support.
Give your pet the ultimate getaway at Greenbriar Luxury Pet Resort! Located on 30 beautiful acres in Urbana, Maryland, our resort offers premier pet boarding, daycare, grooming, and nail trims. With walking trails, spacious exercise runs, and open play areas, your pet will enjoy a safe, fun, and relaxing experience.
DVM - Medical Director
Dr. Patty Ainsworth joined the team at Greenbriar in November 2023 as Medical Director. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in 1989 and her DVM in 1993. After graduation, she moved north to be closer to her family, working in McLean, VA, until 2000, when she joined the staff of Falls Road Veterinary Hospital in Potomac, MD. Dr. Ainsworth worked at Falls Road for 25 years, serving as Medical Director for the last six years of her tenure.
In her spare time, Dr. Ainsworth enjoys running on the C&O Canal and participates in many local 5K and 10K races (sometimes longer ones when she is feeling energetic). She also enjoys reading in a wide variety of genres and occasionally indulges in handcrafts such as knitting and sewing. She is an avid hiker who has explored most of the local trails.
Dr. Ainsworth is married with two adult children. Her son recently graduated from the University of Maryland, and her daughter is not far behind. She has three cats, all of whom she adopted from Pet Connect Rescue.
DVM
Dr. Smith joined the Greenbriar team as an Associate Veterinarian in March of 2022. Originally a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at nearby Elon University. She then attended veterinary school at the not-so-nearby St. George University on the beautiful island of Grenada, West Indies. After three years in Grenada, she spent her clinical year in Knoxville, TN, at the University of Tennessee and graduated from veterinary school in January 2018. Upon graduation, Dr. Smith began her career as a small animal veterinarian in Pompano Beach, Florida, before moving to Frederick, Maryland, in the fall of 2020. As an avid outdoorswoman, Dr. Smith was eager to trade Florida's hot and flat environment for the cool and mountainous Maryland. With hobbies including hiking, backpacking, climbing, paddling, and snowboarding, this was a very welcomed change.
DVM
Dr. Michael Agnello was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, and completed his undergraduate studies at UMBC. He attended veterinary school as part of the Class of 2022 at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, where he was introduced to the Christian Veterinary Mission organization and began participating in mission trips both domestically and abroad. After working at a rural mixed-animal practice in Tennessee for two years, he moved back home to Maryland and joined the Greenbriar team. He has a particular interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. Although dogs and cats are his primary focus now, he will always have a soft spot for food animal medicine.
Outside of work, he enjoys the outdoors through sports, hiking, kayaking, barbecuing, and spending time with friends and family.
